I’ve been reading magazines for as long as I can remember. I started out reading People, Hello, Seventeen and any magazine that seemed cool to read at the time. Back then, I just used to flick through pictures and if there was something really juicy like the Brittany Spears incident in 2007, I would occasionally read that too. Although I must admit, over time my favorite sections became the glamor and style columns because the outfits they featured allowed me to day dream about what I would one day want in my closet when I would be able to buy my own clothes. I also enjoyed reading inspirational stories, sounds cliche but its true.
As I got a little older I stopped reading those former magazine because I also learned that sometimes these magazines enhance their stories and it all seemed to revolve around gossip and bagging out celebrities. I chose to start reading Cosmopolitan and Elle magazine because they seemed super elegant and fitting for my growth. Another cool thing is occasionally one of these publications was bound to have some freebies in them, when you purchased the magazine. The freebies ranged from perfume samples to little bags. What a clever little incentive to throw in for buying their magazines because who doesn’t like free things anyways?
After stacking up on these magazines, I stopped reading and buying magazines for a while. This year I decided to revive my love for magazines but wasn’t sure which ones to start picking up. As I mentioned before, I love my inspirational stories, glamor tips, styling ideas and so much more. Substance is what I was after. Having read Madonna Badger’s story that was published by Vogue, I decided perhaps it wouldn’t be a bad magazine for me to start reading. After all it had already ticked the other boxes of what I was looking for in a magazine.
